Senator Dick Durbin endorses Dem Abdelnasser Rashid for for Cook County Board
CHICAGO (October 9, 2018)- U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, the senior senator from Illinois, endorsed independent Democratic Cook County Commissioner candidate Abdelnasser Rashid on Monday in the southwest suburban 17th District over Republican appointee Sean Morrison.
“This election isn’t just about taking back the House and Senate–we have to fight back against the backward policies of the Trump administration at every level of government,” said Senator Durbin. “That’s why I’m enthusiastically endorsing Abdelnasser Rashid for Cook County Board. As GOP County Chair, incumbent Republican Sean Morrison has enabled the most unacceptable, regressive urges of the Trump and Rauner administrations. I trust Abdelnasser to bring fresh, progressive leadership to the County Board.”
“I am thankful to be endorsed by Senator Durbin, who has been an incredible champion for working families in Cook County and across the nation,” said Rashid. “We are lucky to have someone representing Illinois who is not afraid to stand as a bulwark against the dangerous policies of the Trump administration.”
Abdelnasser Rashid is an independent Democrat running for Cook County Commissioner in the 17th District to be a voice for working and middle class families who continue to face growing hardships and high property taxes.
Rashid fought for property tax relief for homeowners and small businesses while campaigning to elect a new property tax assessor, Fritz Kaegi. As Deputy Chief of Staff for Cook County Clerk David Orr, he was dedicated to making government more efficient, ethical and transparent.
